Tanya Teaches

TanyaTomkinsandEricZivianTanya is committed to educating young musicians — not only on the techniques of how to play music but also on how to live as a working musician. Inspired by her mentor, Anner Bylsma, the renowned Dutch cellist who was the first to record the Bach Cello Suites as played on the baroque cello, Tanya wants to help young musicians understand what it takes to have a career in music.

Her teaching credentials include master classes at Yale and Julliard, time on the faculty of San Jose State, and current appointments at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the American Bach Soloists Academy.

For the last two years, she has also been a principal of Benvenue House Music‘s apprentice program, which allows four talented young musicians to work closely with and perform alongside a variety of veteran performers, in addition to giving their own concerts.

In 2015, Tanya will add teaching responsibilities at the Valley of the Moon Music Festival, a festival devoted to presenting romantic and classical music on original instruments — the first in the U.S. to do this, co-founded by her.
